Rotary Club of Ashburton Plains Welcomes New President
The Rotary Club of Ashburton Plains marked the end of another successful Rotary year at its annual Changeover Meeting held last week.
The occasion saw the formal handover of leadership from outgoing President Wim Melchers to incoming President Steve Allen. After serving two consecutive years as President, Wim was thanked for his dedication, leadership, and commitment to guiding the club through a busy and productive period of service to the community.
During his term, the club continued its support of numerous local projects and community organisations while also contributing to Rotary’s wider national and international initiatives. Members acknowledged Wim’s steady leadership and the significant contribution he made to the continued success of the club.
Taking up the role for the 2026-27 Rotary year, President Steve Allen outlined his vision for the year ahead and introduced his team of directors who will support the club’s activities and community service programmes.
Steve also shared Rotary International’s theme for the coming year, “Create Lasting Impact.” The theme encourages Rotarians around the world to focus on projects and initiatives that deliver meaningful and sustainable benefits for their communities and beyond.
In his address, President Steve highlighted the important role Rotary continues to play in supporting local causes, developing future leaders, and contributing to international humanitarian efforts. He expressed his enthusiasm for working alongside club members to build on the strong foundation established by previous presidents and to continue making a positive difference in the Ashburton community.
The Rotary Club of Ashburton Plains has a proud history of service and community involvement, and members are looking forward to another active year of fundraising, fellowship, and projects that embody Rotary’s motto of “Service Above Self.”
